AI in Research and Community of Practice

In recognition of the impact that AI is having on research and research training, two new Academic Convenors were appointed at the end of May 2024. Professor Jane Kaye, Senior Academic Convenor AI in Research, is primarily responsible for establishing and chairing the AIR Working Group (a co-ordinating group for AI in research and research training) and Associate Professor Sam Baron Academic Convenor AI in Research, is responsible for the AI in Research Community of Practice.

Their priorities for the next year are to:

  1. Establish the AI in Research Working Group (AIR Working Group) of experts to coordinate activities, guide the development of UoM policy and to be the central point of communication across faculties, schools, and disciplines.
  2. Connect people working in the field of AI, so that we can develop responses and solutions to some of the issues around the use of AI as well as encourage more people to use AI.
  3. Build a community of practice around R&RT (AIR COP) to share knowledge and examples of best practices through seminars, lectures and events.
