Events beyond the Library
Congratulations to Dr Gillian Howell (Melbourne Conservatorium of Music) and Dr Rachael Bathgate (School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences) on being awarded the Reel Impact 2024 Prizes for their entries Strengthening First Languages through Songwriting: New songs at Baya Gawiy, and Transforming Cities with Woody Meadows.
Their award-winning entries were submitted for the Reel Impact Prize 2024 which encourages innovative research translation by challenging researchers at the University of Melbourne to present their research as either a 60-second engaging video or a visual storyboard that describes the impact it has had within society to a non-specialist audience.
Both researchers have been awarded $8,000 to now collaborate with their choice of professional media storyteller to develop a new creative output that will showcase the impact achieved through their research. And through this creative partnership, the dissemination of their impactful research will aim to reach general audiences beyond academia. The premiere of their completed collaborations will be announced in 2025.
Congratulations also to the following researchers who were acknowledged with Honourable Mentions: Dr Ngaree Blow, (Department of Medical Education) Exploring the benefits of cultural immersion on medical education: the case of On Country for health (OC4H) discovery students in the Wurru Wurru Health Unit; A/Prof Selina Parry, (Physiotherapy) Incidence and associated risk factors for falls in adults following critical illness: An observational study); Dr Negin Yousefpour, (Infrastructure Engineering) The first AI early warning system for earth dams.
