About RUIAC

The Research Unit for Indigenous Arts and Cultures (RUIAC) is an initiative of the Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development and the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at The University of Melbourne. RUIAC has four main objectives:

  • Conduct and promote research that produces knowledge about Indigenous arts practices and arts philosophies
  • Support and grow Indigenous research and researchers in the arts, through postgraduate training, research activity and research networks
  • Inform and demonstrate world’s best practice in intercultural arts research and arts research training
  • Leverage the potential of Indigenous arts knowledge in society, through partnerships with community, government, and industry.

The RUIAC team and community pursues these objectives through a graduate research training program with the Wilin Centre, staff and student research, and engagement and partnerships with community, government and industry.

RUIAC is the only dedicated research unit for Indigenous arts and culture in Australia.
