Erin Grant

I’m Erin and I’m currently a PhD student in the School of Physics. I took Communication for Research Scientists during my Masters degree and it was extremely helpful for both my academic writing and more personal projects – such as a blog I recently started! My research is highly interdisciplinary, so good communication is essential. Being able to target your writing for specific audiences is one of the most important skills that the communication subject taught me and it really comes in handy when sometimes you have to write for biologists and at other times physicists! The subject also really delved into what makes a good piece of writing AND what makes a good oral presentation, and it gives you ample opportunity to properly practice both with useful feedback. I gained a lot of confidence from taking just one scicomm subject and I highly recommend it to all students.
