Age of smart phone: What should we really worry about?
Smartphones, they have become necessities for daily life. People use them to shop, rent bikes, pay bills and do quiz in class. It’s not only just a cell phone with more apps on it but also provide convenient platform for many emerged middle class in developing countries. There are people believe it should be the best invention in this century. Medias even reported that many place in China might become cashless society. It’s largely due to the popularize of smartphone.However, there are some worries proposed by researchers.

Smartphone and health
Cancer and use of cell phone is a topical issue these years. A recent study concludes that the radiation from cell phones may affect the nerve and mucosal cells on the face. Fortunately, there is no evidence to support the relationship between using cell phone and skin cancer.
Smartphone and emotion
There is no solid approval for people became more emotional or more aggressive than ancient time. However, there is a group of scientist find out that depression, emotional stability and impulse control might be associated with problematic smartphone usage. People with less impulse control may also be more likely to have problematic cell phone use. Researchers admitted that to find out the temporality of the association requires further studies.
Smartphone and academic performance
There are two studies aim at university students and their behaviours on using smartphones. One study at 2014 suggested that social activities on social media might be associated with smartphone addiction. The other study at 2015 suggested that overuse of smartphone might be associated poorer academic performance. However, further studies are needed.
Smartphone and sleep quality in young people
As the business insider has reported there are more than 90% young people sleep with smartphones. Although it’s not a academic media, but it’s has show the worries from the society on the overuse issue of smartphone in young people. A study in Germany youth also show the lower sleep quality might be associated with overuse of smartphones.
So should we abandoned smartphone
It seems that only overuse or addicted to smartphone can potentially cause some issues. Technology always come with problems. That’s not the reason we stop using them. Identified the problem and find way to solve those issues is how the technology get improved. The study about the potential role of sleep apps is a good example. Except the efforts paid by researchers, remember the 20-20-20 rules when we use smartphone or computer maybe more efficient right now. Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and focus your eyes on something at least 20 feet away.
