Scroll: A Journal by Student Conservators at Melbourne

Scroll is a journal published by students of the Grimwade Centre of Cultural Materials Conservation (Student Conservators at Melbourne SC@M). They publish under a range of categories, including essays, reviews, interviews, reports, and other creative outputs.

Contributions are welcome from current and recent graduates of the Grimwade Centre, as well as from graduates in Art Curatorship, and Arts and Cultural Management, and any other graduates who have an interest in conservation and the heritage sector.

The journal aims to offer students to experience in writing creatively and critically (outside of the context and pressures of assignments), as well as share projects, activities, or general musings. Submissions will also benefit from editing and feedback to help hone writing skills.

In 2023 the editorial team grew with the addition of Jonathan van Toor and Emily May, who bring their individual specialist knowledge from their previous studies, as well as strong writing skills and experience in publishing on other platforms. Founding editors, Rachel Davis, Joshua Loke, and Emma Dacey, recommitted to their roles and to maintaining a non-hierarchical working structure, meaning that the new editors could hit the ground running with equal weight as the founders.

Volumes 1 and 2 of Scroll are available on the Student Conservators at Melbourne (SC@M) website. Scroll thanks SC@M for their continued support. The editorial team is now looking forward to Volume 3, submissions for which volume closed 30 June 2023. More information on submitting is available on Scroll’sParticipate page.

Scroll was established on the Country of the Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation. The sovereignty of these lands was never ceded. The editors of Scroll acknowledge the Traditional Owners and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
