Four SOLL Researchers Listed Top 2% Scientists Worldwide

In a recent update published by Elsevier BV, Dr. Neomy Storch, Dr. Tim McNamara, Dr. Anthony Pym and Dr. Gillian Wigglesworth from the School of Languages and Linguistics (SOLL) are ranked among the world’s top 2% scientists.

This is based on September 2022 data-update for “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators” published on 10 October 2022. According to the update, there are two datasets, one for career-long impact (till the end of 2021) and the other for single-year (2021) impact, including 200,409 and 195,605 scientists respectively from 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. Rankings are made based on c-score, which focuses on citations (impact) with considerations of co-authorship and author positions rather than the number of publications (productivity).

Among the four SOLL researchers, Dr. Neomy Storch, Dr. Tim McNamara and Dr. Anthony Pym are ranked top 2% on both the career-long list and the 2021 single-year list in the sub-field of languages and linguistics.

On the single-year list, Dr. Neomy Storch, ranked 20th globally, is the most influential linguist in Australia in 2021. She is currently an Associate Professor in ESL and Coordinator for the Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Postgraduate Programme. She is renowned for her research on second language acquisition, collaborative writing, and academic writing.

This result reflects the extraordinary research that SOLL researchers have been undertaking and their resilience during the pandemic. It also recognises SOLL as a world leader in linguistics research.
