MSPGH Seminar: 26th September 2018 – Violence against women in Asia and the Pacific: What do we know from 20 years of prevalence studies?

12.30-1.30pm, Wed 26th September 2018
Seminar Room 515, Level 5, 207 Bouverie Street, Carlton

Dr Henrica A.F.M. (Henriette) Jansen, Technical Advisor, Violence against Women, Research and Data, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Asia and the Pacific Regional Office (APRO), Bangkok

Goal 5 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, aims to “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” and includes targets and indicators on violence against women (VAW). This seminar presents an up-to-date snapshot of prevalence data in the Asia-Pacific region, showing the status towards relevant SDG indicators.  While VAW is common everywhere, levels and patterns vary and overall prevalence rates hide huge variations including between countries and regions.  This exploration underlines the importance of understanding context and the story that the data tells for policy, advocacy, legal reform and programme development.
