12.30-1.30pm, Mon 17th September 2018
Seminar Room 515, Level 5, 207 Bouverie Street, Carlton
Professor Olena Hankivsky, Professor, School of Public Policy; Director of the Institute for Intersectionality Research and Policy at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada; and
Visiting Professor, Graduate Institute, Geneva, Switzerland
Extending beyond gender-specific and social determinants frameworks, intersectionality focuses attention on a variety of multi-level interacting social locations, forces, factors and power structures that shape and influence human life. The seminar will explore how intersectionality has developed in health research and policy and show how this perspective can assist researchers, policy makers and activists working in the fields of women’s health and gender and health, to better understand differential effects of illness, disease and health experiences.
