MSPGH Seminar: 24th October 2018 – The State of World Population 2018: The Global Fertility Transition

12.30-1.30pm, Wed 24th October 2018
Seminar Room 515, Level 5, 207 Bouverie Street, Carlton

Professor Peter McDonald AM, Professor of Demography, Centre for Health Policy, Melbourne School of Population & Global Health

The State of World Population 2018 examines the global fertility transition.  Professor McDonald was the senior research adviser for this UN report. In the past 150 years and particularly since the 1960s, fertility rates have fallen in virtually every country.  From a past situation where all countries of the world had fertility rates of five or more births per woman, today the majority of countries have fertility rates of 2.5 or lower.  The seminar addresses the progress of this momentous change in human history, its causes and consequences.
