12.30-1.30pm, Thu 11th July 2019
Seminar Room 515, Level 5, 207 Bouverie Street, Carlton
Dr David Hipgrave, Senior Health Advisor and Team Leader, (Health Systems Strengthening), UNICEF New York, U.S.A.
In October 2018, the global health community’s attention turned to a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Alma Ata Declaration on primary health care (PHC). Agencies engaged in supporting countries on PHC are being asked to collaborate to a greater degree, ideally improving country ownership, and partners’ efficiency and collective outputs. However, the obstacles to such collaboration are not insignificant, highlighting the need for common defined objectives, a new level of interagency coordination and ideally joint reporting on common indicators of progress on PHC. Meanwhile, forthcoming events and processes are also calling for partners to work together on health systems strengthening for PHC, universal health coverage and the health-related sustainable development goals. Dr Hipgrave will give an overview of these processes and opportunities, and describe UNICEF’s engagement in them at global, regional and country levels.
