Street party: VCA turns 40

In April, the VCA celebrated 40 years of developing Australia’s creative talent with a street party at Southbank.

While the weather was cold and windy, the atmosphere was warm as toast with hundreds of staff, students, alumni, friends, family and supporters turning up to toast the VCA and dance in the street to the funkadelic tunes of DJ Manchild, ScotDrakula, Saskwatch and Clairy Browne & the Bangin’ Rackettes. A highlight was the disco-inspired ‘Welcome to Country’ composed and sung by Yorta Yorta soprano Deborah Cheetham (head of The Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts).

Professor Su Baker, Director of the VCA, said the past years had seen some amazing talent emerge, and the street party celebrated the achievements of the VCA, its students, and their significant contributions to Melbourne’s thriving cultural scene.

Happy 40th birthday VCA!
