Mentor: Prof Aurore Delaigle, School of Mathematics and Statistics
This week Aurore gave us some tips on interviewing for academic jobs. Below is a summary of the key points:
- Identify your field of expertise and know which journals are highly valued in this field. Publications in these journals will increase your chances to get the position.
- It is important to have a research plan and know how it fits the broad research interests and expertise of staff within the Department/School.
- You may be asked to present a teaching demonstration.
- Be prepared for a variety of interview questions and know how to handle tricky questions.
- Be aware that hiring procedures can differ between countries.
