International Museum Day – Tours for University of Melbourne Staff
To celebrate International Museum Day 2019, a series of museum and collection tours are being offered on Thursday 16 May (for University of Melbourne staff only) – come along to get better acquainted with some of the university’s rich cultural collections.
The celebration of International Museum Day (IMD) has been organised by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) since 1977. The objective of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.
This year the theme of IMD is Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition. The day’s events celebrate this theme and the rich history that International Museum Day acknowledges more broadly.
