Somewhere Over The Rainbow…

The Chaser skit “If Life Was A Musical” sums up my family living circumstances at times. My family fortunately [unfortunately?] happens to be full of very musical people. This means that more often than not I will be trying to study in quiet only to be disturbed by constant singing [my brothers have a habit of singing regular requests in song *banghead*], instrument playing [no.2 brother is currently studying clarinet]; perhaps a nice change from piano, guitar, flute or cello….then to make matters better [worse?] is the constant playing of various CD’s; usually in the realm of the usual classical composers [Bach, Beethoven, Haydn ect] or one of the favourites [Nina Simone, Lou Reed, Nick Cave, Cat Stevens] – distracting because then of course I start singing along!!

Anyhow. A rare moment of peace has finally entered the home landscape!
Exams are nearly over, and I’m ready and waiting to let out that sigh of relief. I’ve come to the conclusion I work better under stress and strict deadlines…for this exam period has been the least challenging ever; no stress whatsoever, and I’ve been absolutely quite antsy because of it – struggling to find the motivation to sit down and hit the books because there is no “I need to study like my life depends on it” caused by one reason or another.

I start my internship in a week and I’m bubbling with excitement. Perhaps another reason I’ve struggled to maintain focus on the tedium of study? I can’t wait!!! I love new environments, meeting new people and learning things. I have zero expectations of what I’m about to face – which makes me even more anxious to start so I can find out what it’s all about!

I know [with an ounce of cynicism perhaps?] that I’m in for a pretty big shock as to the life of full-time work. I know uni is a breeze compared to it [or so my working friends say]…but I’m yet to actually understand what that means exactly.

So a new adventure it will be!!!

I have to run,
So much to do – but I will try to get another update in some time.
It’s just SO busy 24/7….especially with organisation of 85 Broads and PIS events….85 Broads has a very exclusive networking dinner happening the week after next which should be great…!

MUST run [really!]

Cheers,
Sophie

  1. Sounds like its gonna be an exciting summer ahead for you. I am sure you will come across interesting and challenging experiences in the professional workplace. Do you mind if I ask where you are doing your internship? Being a fellow commerce student, I can’t help but be curious.
