Come to O-week at the Music Faculty!

To all incoming music students, music-as-breadth students, and other students with even a vague interest in music:

We, the Melbourne University Music Students’ Society, have a whole bunch of awesome things planned for you over the coming week. Like free pancakes. And a free pizza lunch. And lots of other things that are so awesome that I can’t speak of them in this post.

So come along, have a pancake, and sign up for the Music Students’ Society. It’s free for union members, and only $3 otherwise if you sign up during O-week or week 1 – after that, it’s $5. If you sign up as a non-union member but join the union later, you can get a refund of your $3 or $5. EDIT: Did I mention that your $3 membership gets you a $6 discount to music camp? Seriously. Sign up. It’s valuable.

Trust me, it’s worth it. You’ll recoup your investment after one pizza lunch, or if you miss that, the free BBQ in the first and last weeks of semester. We also run Music Camp, Music Ball, Music Cruise, a bake-off, and sponsor an Associate Artist Prize (i.e. accompanist award) for Concert Class to the tune of $100. We run a monthly magazine, sponsor concert fundraisers for charitable causes, co-run jazz improv classes, advertise your music events, run practice recitals during exam period, and our sponsors down at the Clyde hire members for gigs and give you drinks specials. Members get discounts on all non-free events we run. Plus, if you’re a music student, we protect your rights and represent you and all that.

We’re very welcome of non-music students as well – there is no prerequisite for joining other than a love for music (or music students) and a tolerance for greasy sausages (or veggie burgers). So please come to our stall, which will be running at the Music Faculty from Tuesday to Thursday, or at the clubs fair on Thursday and Friday, or pop by one of our events. You can view our full O-week calendar on our Facebook page

Looking forward to seeing you there!
