Chapter Fifty-Four: The Lost Wallet (~jinghan)

Jinghan gets on the bus, it’s hot and she is looking forward to stepping into the cool air inside the apartment and having some grapes and a cold glass of milk. Just as she is walking into the apartment complex a guy turns to her and says “you got off at the previous stop yeah?”

She is not sure where this is going so she says “yeah…”

The guy says “I think you may have left your wallet.”

“Crap,” thinks Jinghan and checks her bag. Sure enough, it’s not there. “Crap,” says Jinghan out loud.

“Uh maybe you can call Unitrans and they can get it back for you.”

Jinghan is looking rather flustered and saying something that is probably “Damn I can’t get into my apartment because my key is in my wallet, and my unitran booklet is in the apartment.” and then some confused looking old Indian man asks Jinghan about where the study lounge is and she is a little bit blunt about pointing it out to him but I’m sure he’ll forgive her.

In the meantime the nice guy from the bus has looked up the unitrans number and tells Jinghan who calls and prays that she isn’t put on hold for a long time when the automated voice says “for timetable information press 1, to speak to a administrator about any other issues press 2”

But she is lucky and a nice lady picks it up immediately. She tells jinghan that wallets are handed to the police people. Jinghan is disappointed about this because she will have to go out and try and find said place. Jinghan is very lucky because her roommate happens to be at home and lets her in. (but she can’t sit down or have grape and milk) The lady tells Jinghan where the bus is going next.

Jinghan is again lucky because the line the bus is going down is near her apartment, she looks at the time table and realises it gets to the stop in 5minutes so she runs to the bus stop.

There is still five minutes until the bus comes, Jinghan eyes the street waiting for the bus to arrive while hoping desperately that someone has picked up her wallet and handed it in so that she doesn’t have to deactivate her bank accounts and change the lock on her apartment which are all costly and annoying

And the bus finally comes, and when she asks the driver “did someone hand in a wallet” he (gloriously) reaches for the little cabinet above the driver’s seat and asks “What did it look like?”

And so Jinghan got her wallet back, and then went and had grapes and cold milk.

(Spoiler: this was ruined a little bit by the fact that her flat mate made her discuss cleaning schedules and internet at this point leaving her a little bit frustrated and antisocial. But this does not detract from the fact that Jinghan is a very lucky girl. )
