Works in Progress #4

In April 2023 we held our fourth Work in Progress seminar; a seminar featuring ongoing work by members of the Narrative Network.

For this event we had a great line-up of four speakers, who took us through a diverse range of projects using a narrative approach. First up was Wajeehah Aayeshah who spoke about her research on how early career academics experienced and navigated the first stages of the pandemic. Second, Katya Ivanova presented work in progress from her PhD research on how Russian and Australian fathers narrate their fatherhood practices in the context of separation from their children’s mothers. Our third speaker was Katitza Chavez who took us through a narrative analysis of interviews with children who have lost a parent to domestic homicide. And finally, the last speaker for the day was Davinia Rizzo who also presented work in progress from her PhD. Davinia focused on the narratives in ‘crime’ podcasts to explore how these represent criminalised identities and questioned whether they reproduce stereotypical images of people involved in crime or allow for more diverse representations.

This was a stimulating day and it was great to see that the network, and people’s research, is still going strong, despite the last few years of lockdown and isolation.
