Kylix

Kylix is a new student journal publishing work written and edited by students at the University of Melbourne. The journal provides an opportunity for undergraduate students of Classics and Ancient World Studies to gain experience in preparing work for publication and acts as a showcase of exemplary student work. Kylix seeks to publish exceptional and high-scoring essays submitted for Classics and Ancient World Studies courses, following a student-led editorial process.

Students are encouraged to submit their high-scoring essays, but we also encourage submissions of archaeological field reports, book reviews, museum and gallery reviews, discussions of media related to the ancient world, or creative works such as paintings or poetry in ancient languages.

Kylix releases a biannual call for papers. Submissions should be made through the Kylix online submission form.

Submitted essays should range between 1000 and 5000 words, including footnotes and bibliography. Shorter pieces will also be accepted for other formats such as reviews or creative works. Authors are required to follow the style guidelines listed below regarding formatting, grammar, spelling, and references.

The Kylix team currently finalising our first issue and are seeking expressions of interest to join the team in 2024. We are looking for third-year, honours, and postgraduate Classics and Ancient World Studies majors. If you are interested in gaining publishing experience, which will put you in good stead for future tutoring work and help you with your own writing, contact the Kylix committee via email.
