My Swedish Identity Is Not Enough
“How much media have you consumed today?”
A lot, probably.
You have most likely already checked your e-mail and your Facebook. That’s usually what I do before blogging. Then a friend recommended you to look up a funny clip on youtube. We all know what that means – at least an hour. Suddenly you realise: “Oh shit, maybe I should think about my future.” And that’s how you ended up here.
I remember the first time I found this site. I was sitting behind my screen, happy to finally hear a voice. Someone talking to me.
So how was my first day?
Good, not too bad. Very different though. There were many cultural references, like Summer Heights High. Forget the small-sized classes and think big public theatres. In the Creatvie Writing lecture we were about the size of a small village in Sweden.
The lecture was of course also recorded. So we could download it for later. HIGH-TECH! Although I’m enrolled in Media, I still prefer my pen and paper (as we found out today, like all days, computers aren’t always reliable). Besides, aren’t we supposed to interact anyway? Isn’t that the fun part of learning? All I know is that I won’t be sitting at home, going through my lectures over the web. Because I need to meet people.
That’s what I spent the rest of the day doing. I had lunch with some friends and took a coffee with another. Like most newcomers I felt a bit lost until I found South Lawn.
I love South Lawn. It’s the best. So peaceful. I listened to some music there. Then I began to read, but a thought crossed my mind: this year I’ll be organised. So I went to the bookshop, where I bumped into Natty, another blogger. She’s organised. I’ve got myself a binder and some colourful pens. They add life. I keep telling myself I’ve got everything under control, that I’m organised. But the truth is I haven’t even arranged for a proof of age card yet! My Swedish ID card, i.e. my Swedish identity, is not enough here!
I agree, the lecture experience is incomparable.
And of course, one might not want to miss the jokes one’s lecturer told the day before, while one’s friends go on and on about them without end, leaving one boggled and wondering =P
I haven’t consumed any media today. Although it is 7.30 am and I am about to read the paper. Hmm…I’m going to be late…
I ran off after my one lecture to go galavanting around the city, but I did stop at south lawn.
Also the thought occurs to me, how many people in this blog are actually doing creative writing?
@Yoddeuss
I think Suzi, Olle and Natty are all doing Creative Writing ? Unless I’m much mistaken…
