The High Court will hear an appeal against a decision of the NSW Court of Appeal on negligence claims and the harm of post-traumatic stress disorder in the context of policing. The NSWCA held that the State was not liable in negligence to pay a detective compensation for psychological harm suffered from his exposure to horrific crimes. It held that the appellant had not established any steps the State could have taken that would have led him to avoid the harm or seek early treatment.
