Exam Revision snippet II

unoriginal – but this is what’s going through my head at the moment…

Cells with a trophic factor inhibits caspase activation, as trophic factor (sensory neurons in dorsal root ganglion req. different ones to survive) activates a Pl-3 kinase, which in turn starts phosphorylating cascade, activating Akt kinase (with help of ATP hydrolysis) to phosphorylate Bad, inhibiting this by causing it to bind to protein 14-3-3. This means Bad cannot activate Bcl-2 and Bcl-Xl and therefore Bax channel does not open up, inhibiting the movement of cyt c into the cytoplasm (causing caspade activation cascade) – and resulting apoptosis.

In other news, I’ve decided to extend my degree another year by dropping down to three subjects (four subjects a semester just seemed far too hard). This works out well as I’ve an extra four subjects to complete anyway as part of a concurrent Global Issues cert. Don’t suppose there is a “still here in fourth year” blog… kinda catchy.

This does mean that I’ll have more time to (finally) get involved in the Christian Union/Chocolate lovers society/learn french/fulfill a dream of becoming a waitress/do the splits.

more on that later…

Ciao!

P.S: If you’ve already finished your exams… please spare thought for the rest of us! Or not.

[Edit]; 22/6… great… I have the flu/tonsillitis/ughh. More exams tomorrow and the next. And then I’ll get better so I’m not quarantined when going to Singapore next week. All the best with the special exams Gianina.
