Unusually emotional (Kripa’s last post)
This year, it is not the ending of the year that kind of disappoints me. I should be happy about that but the strange feeling I have never had before is the respect towards our lecturers. Although one of my subjects on Nutrition was quite daunting, our lecturer was the one who provided good feedback and reassured that the exam should not be taken under stress and we always get to have another go even if we fail. His last lecture is one I cannot forget, because not only did he hint at the main areas we need to look at in the exam but also comforted us saying that if we do suffer from some sort of breakdown such that nothing comes into your head, he is willing to take a supplementary exam. Even if students are not good at writing, he is willing to do an oral exam if that extent becomes possible. His principle is that all he wants to know is that we have understood what he taught. After that lecture, I am now more confident in facing the exam. A great and knowledgeable lecturer, indeed.Another was for Economics where we have a lecturer who is a great entertainer. He jokes but also conveys the serious message. The sad thing is that he will not be doing this subject anymore because of the Melbourne Model. It was an intellectually stimulating subject and he always made us smile at least once during his lecture. I shall miss him; however he seems to be happy now that he believes it’s time for some change. At least he’s looking on the bright side.
I got so emotional that day, it’s not funny. I realised how I take my lecturers for granted, considering that they have provided us with all the knowledge that I have acquired over 2 years. We come into the lecture theatre, listen to him/her, try to understand, and leave. But it must have required so much effort on the lecturer’s part to convey the message effectively across so many different students. Now, that’s one skill. From what I have enjoyed from different lecturers, it makes me want to take teaching as a profession. Let me take this moment to thank all my lecturers for their wonderful effort and I appreciate the job.
As usual, good luck for all the exams, guys! I bet we are pros now in facing exams (or not..). This might be my last post, so wishing everyone the best for their future ahead. University has become a great part of my life, and I hope it does to you too.
And thanks Kathryn for giving me this opportunity for 2 years. It felt very comforting to be able to express my feelings and expereinces here along with other students.
Cheers
Till next time
Aww… we’ll miss you, Kripa!
