‘Visions of a Mutual Pacific Destiny: The Japan-Australia Society, 1896–1942’ (PhD in History, 2019). This thesis examined the Japan-Australia Society from its 1928 founding until 1941. Uncovering the role of the leading citizens in business, academia, and conservative politics who formed its membership, the thesis showed that a significant segment of Australians accommodated Japan’s militarism and expansionism as congruent with their own political and commercial interests.
