'Salvete amici' catus inquit (nimajneB) reflected in the x-axis

Hey guys,

The holidays are like artists in the fact that they are drawing to a close.  I’ll leave that one open to interpretation.

Here are seven things I have learned in the past month:

  1. Fist pumping peoples’ glasses when they say cheers results in confused looks.
  2. Drinking directly from the tap may result in scalding your tongue.
  3. Blaming entropy for the state of your room is not really a valid response to ‘Why is your room untidy?’.
  4. Push doors are really pull doors marked incorrectly for entertainment purposes.
  5. It is not advisable to talk with a slightly different accent every few minutes at work for amusement’s sake.
  6. Sleep is great.
  7.  Tempus fugit.

Well this holiday sure has been busy!  I didn’t end up getting to do another post before this because I have had heaps on my metaphorical plate.  Not like steak and stuff, but actual stuff stuff (chicken stuffing?).  During this holiday I have worked a fair bit so I’m very sorry for any unreturned messages, texts or cancelled plans.  Also I had to sit some supplementary exams so was swotting in the middle of the holidays >_<  All well, it’s all over now and I think it went well.  Let me tell you, Wilson Hall is so much warmer than the Royal Exhibition building.  I realised about halfway through an exam when I still had circulation in my fingers and didn’t have to go into a frenzied breathing fit getting warm air on them as I did before.  It sounded rather like I was beat boxing at the time.  Not good.

Managed to get up to Port Douglas for a week which was absolutely fantastic with warm weather and warm water.  However, owing to the fact I had to do a fair bit of study, I didn’t get to see as much of it as the typical holidayer, but I still had a fantastic time.  My siblings found it quite amusing to see me having a ‘light read’ on the beach with my seventy kilo (okay then, thirty) Chemistry textbook.  Haha, I did actually work though, so glad to have gotten those exams out of the way.  Now to see how much I can cram into the last few days.  Of relaxing.  Oh dear, I didn’t mean more work, I’m not that nerdy 😛  Well actually…

I’ve been lucky enough to have been invited up to the snow with a couple of good mates for this coming weekend.  I’m very excited and feel rather spoilt to get to go on two holidays.  It should prove to be fun though, although I’m not sure how good I will be at skiing seeing as I have only seen snow twice (once when we drove halfway up Lake Mountain when we were young and the other at Music Camp at school) and never touched a ski or snowboard.  I hope that it is somewhat like iceskating/rollerblading.  I still have fond memories of the times when my rollerblades still used to fit me back in the day (I am a size 13 shoe).  One time I was rolling along down the sidewalk when this humongous dog (well I hope that it was, it makes anecdote sound less risible) from behind the fence decided that it wanted to bark as I went past.  I got such a fright that I jumped AS I WAS BLADING and stacked impressively, getting close and personal with the pavement.  So hopefully it isn’t like rollerblading.  If it is, there is no cement at the snow 😀

It’s gladdening to get out and about.  One thing I have grown to detest over recent years is just how dependent we have become on technology.  Technology doesn’t only help us, but sometimes it does the whole task for us.  Certainly one of these things is the internet.  Now one can shop, ‘find love’ (although I sincerely doubt it) and create a living all online.  Of course, there are many assets such as the mountains of information and knowledge one can come across, staying in touch with friends and having fun.  Yet the one thing that irks me about this whole online thing is the way that it adversely affects our lives.  Particularly with social media.  Now, there’s nothing wrong with social media, but really, being ‘social’ online is a bit of a strange concept.  I concede that it is good to stay in touch with people.  Yet, the crux of the matter is that social media can cause us to morph part our identity and stunts our ‘growth’ in a manner of speaking.  People have ‘online’ catch ups, ask people out and do other things that really ought to be done face to face.  Yet the current social paradigm dictates that this is merely the norm and not to be thought of as peculiar.  How can we grow if we are retarding half the elements required to have real conversations and life experiences?

Another item of interest is how we live our lives through the net.  We bloggers share to you, our audience, whomever you may be, what it entails to be a uni student, what happens to us in real life and other things.  Indeed, on mediums such as Facebook, we do similar things, sharing elements of our life, our interests and our thoughts.  Yet it shouldn’t be to the extent that we spend such vast amounts of time, daily.  We should spend that time doing something more productive, like reading and eating 😀  I guess that I’m trying to say that we shouldn’t ‘virtually’ live our lives away when we can ‘real’ly enjoy them to the fullest offline.  (Excuse the terrible puns)

I’m really looking forward to this upcoming semester.  I’m going to have to be better organised this semester and manage my time a bit better if I want to enjoy it to the fullest.  I don’t want to fall behind in any subjects, because playing catch up is certainly not fun (seriously, in tiggy Subjects are so O.P.  Someone needs to nerf it) and results in sleep deprivation in swot vac. 😛

Here’s to a semester full of fun, Fanta and success!

Cheers.. Sorry, FIST PUMP! *Punches fist in every direction simultaneously.  No, I’m not double jointed in the shoulder*

Ben^10 xx
