The earth trembled [Vincent]

Did anyone else feel the slight earthquake at around 9 pm this evening ?

I was at my parents’ shop, sitting down on a chair, and didn’t think it was anything unusual… FYI, Melbourne (and Australia in general) is usually considered far removed from any possibility of earthquakes.

See here for a recent report on the tremor from The Age.

(Okay, to make this relevant to uni life, may I suggest that we visit the Geography department on Monday to find out more about this anomaly ? =P And please bear in mind the earthquake’s magnitude in Richter scale, in case that ends up being one of the questions on Trivia Night. Heh.)

  1. Definitely felt that earthquake. First thing that came to mind as it happened was whether or not there’s an active volcano near my house (please understand that I once lived within 20km of a very active volcano… so it’s a bit of an instinctive reaction). There’s none of course… there is at least one very dormant volcano though in this area (as in prehistoric).

  2. That earthquake was mad! I live on the top floor of a very dubiously built building and hence really felt it, though admittedly I did wonder if I might of had a psychotic break until I walked into the corridor and saw all my floormates looking a little dazed and confused at one another.

I wouldn’t worry about quakes though guys, we’re in the middle of a plate and the actual quake was like 100km away. I thought it was neat, myself.
