Back Home (Georgie)

Yes, I am finally back in Melbourne after a month and a half trip to Canada and the US.I had an epic journey back which included delayed planes and the airline putting me for a night in LA and Auckland each, meaning I missed out on three 21sts I was meant to go to on Saturday night. Very annoying, but what can you do? And I was luckier than another guy on the trip, he was missing out on his mum’s wedding.

It is good to be home, but not so good to be back to the real world where I now have to get an internship for this semester for a politics double point subject and a new job. I am very lacking in funds at the moment! Any ideas anyone?

I am really missing travelling and I also got to catch up with three friends from exchange, so I am missing them. But on the plus side, I am back to a lot of the things I didn’t realise I would miss so much. Besides family and friends (blah blah blah), I shall list the things I miss about home so I don’t get miss North America too much:

– My electric blanket

– People understanding my accent

– No one thinking I am British

– Marieke Hardy in the Green Guide

– My bedside lamp. Absent in hostels. Now I can read again before bed.

– My books! I only took one with me when I left and then just read magazines and newspapers, it’s good to just be able to pick one off the shelf now.

– Not living out of a bag

– Clean clothes!

– My electric toothbrush

– The internet! There were no internet cafes in DC and I ended up paying 25c a minut in a fedex just to check my e-mail. It’s nice to be able to finally send off applications without worrying that  I am breaking the bank.

– Not paying for global roaming. Too expensive.

And a million other homey things that I don’t even think about until I go away.

I hope everyone is enjoying their start to semester.
