Hmmm (Chris)

The only thing stopping me from dropping Law at this particular point in time is that it would negate everything that I wanted last year. Perhaps more painful, however, is the realisation that what I don’t really know why I wanted to do Law in the first place, and that I’ve been struggling to construct rational reasons after the fact.

Not a good day.

  1. Law’s a bitch, isn’t it? You’ve summed up everything I wanted to write about, actually (aside from the wanting it last year part, I’m just afraid of commitment as far as music course-monogamy goes), so that’s my blog post made redundant 🙂

I’m sure it gets better in the next few years, though. Scarily enough, someone once said that there are a number of law lecturers here who originally hated/failed the subjects they ended up getting doctorates in and teaching :S. That means it’s got to click eventually, right?

  2. Do some volunteering work at community legal center. u can google community legal center and find one that is in ur local area.
Law can solve some life problems so it is useful to know law. we are all learning the basics studying these law subjects. so we should try . anyway, law is one way of rationality/skill set we can learn. I think we do learn concrete practical stuff in law.
If u dont like law because u think it is bias, wait until to 2nd yr, u will study legal theory, which teaches student to realise the flaws of the legal system. u are given freedom to critique law and express ur complaints against it.

just one more advice: enjoy ur first yr while it lasts because they got peer to peer advice group and other activities to help the 1st yrs to settle down.
in 2nd yr we are assumed to be grown up, there will no activities designed for the 2nd yr.
also classess become larger, around 55- 60 ppl, that means less participation, more isolation.
Another advice is to talk to ur teacher and ask them why is it fun and important to learn this? it makes me feel good to ask because i feel more involved with the subject and feel the passion of that particicular subject.
