Disasters With Dye (Johanna)

For the second time in as many weeks, I have managed to ruin my hair completely. Not good.

As a bit of background information, I previously had untouched hair. My natural colour was a sort of medium brown with natural red and golden glints and undertones. Auburn, I suppose. Lots of people complimented me on it, and my Mum always told me how lucky I was to have naturally streaky hair that turned blonder in the summer. But I decided to dye it anyway.

First time was to go blonde. Not white blonde or cheap blonde, just a nice golden blonde (see picture).Blonde
PXW was oh-so-subtly hoping that I’d dye my hair red, to be wild, but I was insistent on going blonde. Unfortunately, fate seemed to be on his side – I ended up with bright golden red hair with even brighter streaks. Very scary… unfortunately the Anything Goes costumes ladies told me that I’d have to go another colour.

So the process began again. My Mum decided dark dark dark brown might be the way to go, so I went for it. PXW was again trying to twist my decision, hoping for black hair. I decided that would be too radical and verging on gothic, so declined. But what happened to my hair a couple of hours later? It was BLACK! Argh!

I have very pale skin, so yes, I now do look gothic. In the last couple of hours I have had people say I looked like Wednesday Addams and Morticia Addams, as well as Cleopatra (I didn’t mind this one so much!). But woe is me.. the perils of hair dye. I’m just hoping that it will fade a little and actually be dark brown, rather than jet black with a hint of red as it is now.

And now for a little audience participation – 3 questions!
a) Have you ever dyed your hair? If so, what colours?
b) What is your worst hair disaster?
c) When was your best hair day ever?
Have fun..

    c) the day i last got my hair cut…it was straight and the colours were all pretty and yay. But tomorrow i’m getting the same done, so i guess i can say tomorrow, too!

Hope the whole goth look dies down for ya.
    xx

  2. a) Straight black and spiky, back in Year Nine. A change of scenery, that’s all I wanted.
    b) Well I’m about to go and get a friend to do some dreadlocks on me (hopefully, when she finds the time) and so I think I’ll have a different answer for you in about a week’s time!
    c) I’m a guy. We don’t have those…!

  3. (A) One of my ‘social experiments’ I once got my hair bleached to what is best described as ‘Eminem blonde’ – it was highly amusing for all concerned.

    (B) A truly great perk about being a male is that a bad hair day is a foreign concept unless you’re one of those long-haired modelling ‘pretty-boy’ types. Though that said, I had to go to a different hairdresser (some joint in Chadstone) as my regular was booked out. Let’s just say I should’ve inferred from the stylist’s ex-convict appearance that his skill in cutting hair would be comparable to that of (Note: squeamish editor removes name of competitor university) at providing tertiary education.

    (C) Every day is a good hair day.

  4. Ahahah!!! omg great story!!!

    (A) I’ve never died my hear because I am too scared to ruin it! I’ve always been tempted to dye it black or a dark chestnut brown.

    (B) Worst hair disaster was when I cut my hair reallly short…probably about 1.5 inches below my chin. I look BAD with short hair. Well not really bad I guess…but just really young and that’s not a good thing when I already get mistaken with long hair for being 15 years old.

(C)Hmmm…the day after I’ve had my hair cut.

  5. Yay for temporary poker-straight hair rather than long half curly half wavy uncontrollable hair which apparantly “makes you look like a mermaid”

  6. Haha where do I begin?
I love changing my hair colour from ‘boring black’ to ‘white seriously, its white!’. I had pretty much ‘white seriously, its white!’ bleached hair last semester (yep I thought it looked awesome) but currently im back to ‘boring black’. Last year I had a decent sized orangey/red afro and was known as ‘the sheep’ to a few mates (yep crazy year 12). I wouldn’t be caught dead with such a look at uni. Its funny how I convinced my mum about bleaching/dying my hair: “Mum… first day at uni I saw 2 lesbians kissing outside the library, if I show up with black hair, all the kids will think im weird.”

  7. a) Have you ever dyed your hair? If so, what colours?
    – No – it’s unhealthful enough as it is. >_this much” – I ended up with about half an inch of hair. Or maybe an inch or so. It was earlier this year.
    c) When was your best hair day ever?
    – I don’t have those.

  8. I have dyed my hair every colour imagineable, except pink and green. And I seriously mean that. I went crazy all through Year 9-12. At one stage it was pure black and I had blonde eyebrows / beard, which was hillarious for all involved, except me. Then when I bleached out the black, the black bits turned orange, and the blonde regrowth I had turned white. So I had white roots with orange tips. It looked absolutely awful, and I kept it like that for a few weeks before I just shaved it off. Recently I had around 3-4 colours in my hair, but I since got it chopped and have NATURAL COLOUR. First time in so long. I don’t know how long I can keep it like that for!

  9. a) Have you ever dyed your hair? If so, what colours?
Yes, a mix of blonde tips and strips. Nothing outrageous.

    b) What is your worst hair disaster?
Going in for a simple haircut, coming out with a freekin’ afro perm. I’ve never gone back to that hairdresser again.

    c) When was your best hair day ever?
    Ain’t never had one.
