Books presented to the Library in the 1800s by Queen Victoria

To mark the upcoming Queens Birthday holiday, curators from the University Library’s Special Collections surfaced two books (pictured below) each signed by Queen Victoria and presented to the library in the 1800s.

To Irene

This book can be found in the Grainger Museum collection at the University of Melbourne. The volume, entitled To Irene is by English-born and Australian-based musician, composer, conductor and poet G.W.L. Marshall-Hall (1862–1915).

Published by W.M. Maclardy & Company 1896, To Irene contains verse and is the first of volumes published between 1896 and 1898. The cover design (pictured) is by Arthur Streeton.
