In the last moment (Kripa)
Well, 3 weeks into the second year and I’m still just settling down.
The fact was, in my course, second year is when you choose which branch of food science you want to go into. Food science and biotechnology, food science and marketing, food science and technology. I chose biotechnology and as s result, I was recommended to take a subject. (I’d rather not mention it.) It seemed allright, however, as the second week came to an end and I had the lecture, I began to doubt myself. The subject appeared to be getting harder and I didn’t seem to get the hang of it. And to add to the pressure, that was the last day to change subjects online. I spent a considerable amount of time thinking and got clear with the fact that I had to change. I rushed to the computer and I changed it. I cannot explain the relief I had when I had it changed.
The new subject is much much better and I like it. Some times I think about that day, if I was destined to change the subject and changing it in the last moment too. Anyway, so far, so good. I hope I had made the right decision.
On a side note, I need to mention some random matters that annoy me:
1. I don’t understand why some students (are they even students?) come to a lecture with the aim of doing anything else other than listen and learn. Some of them are not even enrolled in that subject. Recently, two girls in front of me were watching LOTR on the laptop. And too, the first part! They were so engrossed into it; it felt like they were watching it for the first time. No audio, only chinese subtitles. Seriosuly, it was quite distracting. Couldn’t they get any other place to watch it? There are peaceful gardens and lawns where you can watch it with your friends..
2. I get the whole idea of wearing headphones and listening to music. But often it can get a bit annoying especially when standing in a crowded tram. My stop arrives and I need this guy to move so that I can walk to the door. I said ‘Excuse me’ and he doesn’t budge. Why? He’s wearing headphones, ofcourse! Finally, I just had to slightly push him away, which I didn’t mean to! Talk about being rude without intention.
Sorry, I just needed to tell this to someone.
Till next time
I reckon second year subjects are much more interesting. =D
You’re also enjoying this year, right? ^^
Like you, I’m annoyed by those who do random stuff in lectures that only distract people. I, too, have come to lectures for subjects I’m not enrolled in, but I always sat down and actually took notes (for Anatomy)! I attended those out-of-my-timetable lessons because I wanted to learn something new (and I really saw something new, like in Econometrics and Anatomy. They’re fun).
I always wonder about people who come into lectures and Facebook, do the newspaper crossword, etc as well – nobody takes attendance in lectures, so why not just stay home?
I completely agree about those people in the lectures! I see people avidly playing solitaire, checking e-mails etc. No one is forcing you to be there! And though I may not be the best example of a committed student, if I don’t feel like learning, I don’t go to the lecture!!!!!
Thanks, guys! Some people are on the same page as me..
Yeh, I am enjoying this year, in fact, I really love uni compared to high school.
