Berlin (Georgie)

Hi all,

So I’ve left England. I did like england, especially the fact that everyone spoke english, but I found London very hectic and fast paced so it was nice to get out to Cambridge and Oxford. Where I have decided, by the way, that I am definitely going to study once my brain grows and I win the lottery. They were both fantastic! And the boys were gorgeous, especially in Oxford. Also, got to see the Great Hall from Harry Potter, my life is now complete.

Went to Berlin for 3 nights. The first night I got there I was really stressed and tired and lonely and very homesick and so I was like ‘arghh! I hate Berlin, why did I come here?!?’. But I had a really great day the next when I went on a walking tour, met an Australian girl and ended up going to part the Berlin wall with her and her dad. And I switched hostels that night and met a really nice Barcelonian girl and an Italian guy. So I didn’t feel so lonely! The next day I went to Sachsenhausen (a concentration camp), which was very sad, but interesting and I’m glad I went. Met an Irish girl from Dublin who was also travelling alone, so that was nice.

Had to get up massively early on monday morning to catch the bus to Prague, which ended up being an HOUR late, so that was annoying, Took a while to get to Prague, then had to wait for an hour and a half to get a bus to Cesky Krumlov (where I am now) and then another 2hrs and 45mins to get here and about half an hour walking around trying to find my hostel. So about 12 hours travelling, but totally worth it! Cesky Krumlov is awesome and beautiful and I’m so glad I made the trek out here. Have taken far too many photos.

Have to catch a bus back to Prague tomorrow and then another one out to Karlovy Vary, another town in the Czech Republic, and I haven’t booked my bus ticket yet because the website is all in Czech! So shall have to get up early tomorrow and book somewhere in town.

On a final note, I am feeling very stupid and guilty that I can only speak one language. Everyone seems to speak at least 2 languages, if not more! So I have decided to give spanish a real go. Not through uni, as I am terrible at languages and it would stress me out too much and I would get terrible marks. But maybe some night classes, or even starting with tapes. Then, when I finish my course at the end of 2009, I plan to take 2010 and travel through Europe for a year. Now I’m thinking that I might try to au pair in Spain to force myself to learn it.

I’m sure I have bored you enough by now, so adios! And enjoy the Melbourne winter

  1. One of my friends lives in the college which has that courtyard from the 5th Harry Potter movie where Professor Trelawney was sacked!

    … anyway.
