  1. Long time, no see [Daniel]

I’ve been travelling around Europe for the last month, after a year of saving. And… It’s been good I’ve learnt things, seen globalisation to a crazy extent (Toblerone is apparently a specialty in Qatar), and enjoyed the hospitality of past friends and acquaintances. I’d recommend it for anyone who has the time (money) or the […]

  2. Payday (Silvia)

“These boots are so steampunk! I gotta get a pair. Woohoo, they’re on sale for… uh, $60? I suppose that’s okay. I’ll wait till next week when The Big Boss pays me.” “Oh wow, a paperback edition of Matthew Reilly’s new book! It costs $23 and let me check my wallet… oh. I guess I […]

  3. I Don’t Want to be Poor Forever. (Candy)

It just hit me today (or rather, hit me again) that my present lifestyle does not match my financial aspirations. I’m still spending roundabout the same money as before, but I don’t seem to have anything to show for it right now. I haven’t been in JB Hi-Fi or Dymocks – my usual haunts – […]

  4. Positive Emoticons. (Candy)

Life is coming up roses. And you know what the most fascinating thing about it all is? Skimming over all the facets of my current existence, it doesn’t necessarily fall into the ‘perfect’ category. And yet way back when, when certain aspects WERE running smoothly, I always felt like something was missing. It really does […]

  5. Home alone [Daniel]

It’s strange to think that you do do better by yourself, that other people, friends for instance, are actually just holding you back. It’s weird and strange, and echoes thoughts I had a long time ago, thoughts filled with trepidation over the idea of moving in with a friend. Maybe those thoughts were true. I’m […]

  6. NO OFFER.

A letter from VTAC, addressed to me. I rip it open, enjoying the sound of tearing paper. NO OFFER. Written in capitals, bold, and size 18 font. How polite! I complain to my bemused housemate, waving the letter around. They even included a pamphlet telling me how to accept my NO OFFER offer! Rub it in, VTAC, rub it in!

  7. Poor.

The moment when you realise you can’t afford to buy $2 burgers from McDonalds is the moment you realise how poor you are. Having lived only two weeks on a budget of $30, I can declare to you that I need a damned job.   Centrelink is paying me the maximum amount of both Youth […]

  8. Ruminating on Plans Gone Awry – Money, Moving, VTAC Offers

This is a post about being a good sister (*cough*martyr*cough) and not getting your own way. I’ve been living with my boyfriend for the past six months in a lovely mansion – a heritage listed one, no less – that he rents with 4 other friends. Rent has been very cheap for me and my […]

  9. HOLIDAYS

There isn’t a sweeter word in the English language than holidays. It strikes joy into the heart of every university student everywhere, and particularly in this university student. I finished my exams a week ago and I can safely say I have done very little, achieved absolutely nothing and I am LOVING it. I will […]

  10. Take 2

Have any of you ever tried a melted chocolate muffin from Romano’s? (Just outside the ERC). They…. are…. AMAZING! They make studying for 8 plus hours in the same EXACT place slightly more tolerable. I’m referring, of course, to the French film I had to edit yesterday. Myself and my group filmed it on Monday […]
