Dude, Ian Thrope did not say that he did not appreciate his success ‘that much’! He just wanted to try new things… and good luck to him.
In regards to your expression. I have never found that I’ve had trouble understanding wht you are trying to say/or the main idea behind what you write in a blog post for example.
However I think from a grammatical perspective their are some weaknesses – but that is because I’m assuming english in your second language. English is a very difficult language to learn because its grammatical ‘rules’ are are very complicated (change in different scenarios) and often lack logic.
For example. In this blog post you wrote “For me i pass uni.”
I understand 100% what you are saying, however the most correct way of saying that in English would be “I have passed uni”. So it is very small things like that.
Problems in grammar can stop your writing from ‘flowing’ well and it could at times make it difficult for a reader to understand you 100%.
However…I think this can definitely be worked on and improved. I am not sure what English teachers would advise to improve this…maybe it could be something as simple as writing things up and having someone correct the grammar? (I’m not sure what exactly would help you?). Melbourne Uni may also run some English support classes? -I would hope so.
Most importantly though Jim, please don’t get down about it. I think you write really well, and you grammatical errors are not that bad. Like I said, I can still understand you! Your writing is also a LOT better than many people who have English as a second language.
I can’t even speak a second language -so anyone who can is pretty cool in my books!
I hope things work out.
Definitely try and find out what the uni offers help wise.
Also if you ever want to ask advice re writing from a friend, I’m here for you – feel free to email me anytime.
Thanks sophie, i will work on it. It is just a weakness which i know i have to improve on.
Melb uni do offer support. Just during uni i don’t have time to use them. THey have LLSU service. (tutor reading ur work and telling u how to improve the writing)
🙂
