Thrown on a tram (Silvia)

So hi, I’m Ouroboros, one of the 2011 bloggers, nice to meet you 😉

It’s probably best I introduce myself first, so you get a good idea of what I’m like before I plunge into my sad story (so that you’ll sympathise with me and not my cruel, cold-blooded friends).
I’m eighteen years old and I’ll be studying the Bachelor of Science this year, yay! Who else can’t wait? I’ve been lazing around the house so long (roughly three months) I’m actually desperate to start studying… nerd, I hear you say. Of course not. I’m just that bored.

Of all the eighteen years I’ve been alive, I don’t think I’ve actually remembered much of it. I’m pretty scatterbrained and I’ve got the memory of a goldfish. People tell me that sometimes, and I reply, “Those fishies are pretty.” And if that doesn’t tell you anything, let me tell you now. I’ve got the mentality of a ten year old- my friends all agree.
And seriously, what kind of a ten year old knows public transport like the back of their hand? I sure as heck didn’t know a thing when I was ten and I’m still just as clueless now.

I go to the city by public transport like most of the uni students and seriously, I can only take the train. After that, I rely solely on my friend to read tram timetables and take us to our destination. So when a whole bunch of us head out to Melbourne Central and I have an interview at Melbourne Uni (for this blog!), what do we do?
Oh, they were so kind. They came with me part of the way, then abruptly decided to split up at MC. I asked them pitifully, with huge bambi-about-to-burst-into-doe-eyed-tears-eyes: “But how do I get there?! I don’t know which tram to take!”
Their short, curt, frigid answer?
“Take any tram!”
Take any tram indeed. They were adamant I’d have to learn my way around the city because this would be my ‘new life’.

Then there were the questions: Which stop was I supposed get off at? Which direction do I walk after that? How do I get back?! And the answers respectively were: Near the Sidney Myer. It’s around there. Take the opposite tram.
Well, that helped.
Actually, it did a little. Just a smidge. I got off near somewhere I recognised and cut ALL THE WAY across campus. I’m not joking. From the medical building to the Baldwin Spencer building. A huge frinking diagonal line across the uni map. You know what was the most agitating part? It took longer than I expected. Seriously, the distances on the map is nowhere near the actual distances. The scale is so wrong! And the weather did not help. It had been raining, it was humid and my feet were killing me, courtesy of ill-fitting shoes. And just a side-note, I put on another pair I bought only hours earlier and that killed even more. What the heck?!

But in the end I found the building… then I got lost WITHIN that building. Honestly, it was a maze. A MAZE, I say. But luckily for me, there were many people who did not mind me knocking at their doors and being a total pest. They pointed me in the right direction and even went so far as to find others to help.
Pause.
Let me thank those selfless people. Thank you for not dismissing me like my friends did. You are truly angels.
Resume.
So great, in the end I got through it all and whoot-whoot, great experience. The totally awesome head of blogging man even pointed out to me the direction back to MC. Thank you (I know you’re reading this, you did warn me), you saved me many anxious minutes and an anxiety attack.

Well, it did end with a happily ever after. I became a blogger and realised my friends are terrible, they are cruel, unforgiving and they do not deserve my love. But as my love is unconditional, they’ll continue to receive it whether I want to give it or not.

Till next time,
~Ouroboros

  1. >.< less rage, try to keep calm when posting a blog, it scares people off when you write with an agitated mode too much. I know a blog is just another personal space like a diary (but publicized), but there's no such need to put blame onto other people. Next time try asking them to read the timetables and tram routes from their end?

  2. Welcome to the bloggosphere! *fanfare* I’m so excited! New bloggers! Yay! I am here because I am a sad little blogger who hasn’t quite moved on from thinking that I’m a first-year student yet. If you are anything like me you’ll be watching this comment space rather closely right about now. =p I wish you all the best!

  3. Thanks for the welcome, jinghan! Big fan of your posts, they make me more and more excited about uni. Totally caught out, I’m watching this space like a hawk gone rabbit-watching! Good luck for second year, will you still be posting in ‘Back for Seconds’?

  4. Haha I get so much more lost WITHIN the buildings than the actually Uni haha I agree they are a maze. A MAZE!
😛 I am Shae by the way, another first year blogger 😉

  5. Yup, just made my first post, it’s kinda scary entering a blogosphere where there are “locals” and I’m the “newbie”. I’ll probably keep one eye on the first-year blog since I’m so adicted, and occasionally throw you guys a rabbit. (And yes, as a hawk, I am still as desperate for rabbits as when I first blogged)

    Thanks!

  6. *high-five!* scatterbrained science students unite! 😀
I had a similar experience prancing about the Uni campus trying to find the room for the bloggy thingy, if I recall I showed up late and very flustered, having run up some stairs and back to find the right place…
Oooh Jinghan, I must get around to posting on Back for Seconds so you don’t look lonely. (I have no idea if you’re lonely. Haven’t checked yet.)

  7. Own3d: I’d keep my rage in check if I’d had a better sense of direction… but you guys left me D;

Yay, to the ‘Back for Seconds’ blog! If you’re going to fling us rabbits every now and then, please make sure they’re plump and wriggly XD

And hi, Nae!! Can’t wait to create an awesome blog of awesomeness alongside you ^^

    *return high 5!*
Haha, it’s good to know I’m not the only one! Gahhh, you know what an ouroboros is!! That’s so rare, hooray!

  8. Hi Ouroboros!! Im another first year blogger, and also a scatter brain. Once i stared off into the distance for about an hour and was late for my classes (in year 12, sooooo in the past haha). Im doing science as well haha and i know what you mean about getting lost on campus, I was trying to get to the place to get my ID card on the aad and got lost somewhere near the art quad and botany centre. And i was like how did i get over here!!! thats not even possible haha

  9. not like i left you…i did not know that you’re lost to that extent haha 😛

if I am the one going for the interview, i would be holding a tram route info/map and a gps…

  10. Oh and i was meaning to ask you something, this may not be right but did you get the name ouroborous from red dwarf. That british space comody TV series 😕 I’m most likely wrong but just curious :]

  11. RoyRogersMcFreely, hi! It’s amazing how we can try to get in one direction and end up in the other. And no, I got Ouroboros from watching an anime, haha. I’m a bit of an anime freak- Fullmetal Alchemist 🙂 I was curious about what the tattoo meant, so I looked it up and I’ve been fond of the concept ever since.

    Own3d: Seriously, I’m not a tekky person.

  12. Im a manga lover too!! my friend loves fullmetal alchemist, Oh im royrogersmcfreely haha, had to change my name for ron, like you im guessing. I know its soooo easy to get totally lost in that place, im looking forward to like getting to know its every ally and shortcuts haha 🙂

  13. YAY FELLOW MANGA LOVER!! Wow, university is amazing, look at all us scatterbrains and manga lovers on the same blog! Have you ever read Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro and watched Code Geass? BEST MANGA AND ANIME EVER!

  14. i havent read the manga but i did watch code geass, but didnt really like it that much it was still good tho. Have you ever read shaman king haha i realy like that, and one piece from my child hood. Also like deathnote i think its fun haha. Wow uni does rock really shows the diversity of people from everywhere haha

    1. I’ve heard of Shaman King but I haven’t got round to it yet. One Piece? Classic, though I still haven’t read it lol. I’m glued to the ones that are more mysterious and action 😛 Deathnote was awesome! Who was your favourite character? I think mine would be Ryuk. I love his outfit, I’d totally wear it XD Uni is going to be the best. Everybody’s all social ^^

  15. lol i cant say that I’m a conissuer of manga but i like it, my friend normally recomends things that id like and shes normally right, i want to start getting elfin lied (not sure if thats spelt right haah). I really like Near and Ryuk, because ryuk looked awesome and near was albino, plus he had smarts haha and we both always play with our hair haha. Me neither 😀 its going to be sooooo awesome i hope we should be friends

    1. Oooh Elfen Lied was GORY! I only got up to the third episode, then I was stuck because the subtitles disappeard! But so far, it’s been awesome. You should totally try it. Near and Mello were a great team, I was kinda sad that Mello didn’t survive 🙁 Of course we should be friends! When Ron gets us all together, there won’t be much of a silence since we already know what we have in common… like writing, photography, Melbourne Uni XD

  16. I loved mello too, he was cool, ugly hair tho :D. Yeah my friend says that elfen lied was terrible but good so i want to try it haha. I cant wait for all of us to get together should be soo fun 😀

    1. Yeah, Mello’s hair was weird. I think he could have been one of the coolest character if only his hair hadn’t been so… bad 😛 I can’t wait either, who knows, maybe I’ll see you in chemistry.

  17. haha pretty cool if we were in the same classes haha, i have lectures on mon wed and fri from 10 -11 and a prac on tue from 2 – 5 and a tute on wed from 12 -11. 😀 know we will know if we’ll see each other haha

    1. Ahh, we won’t be seeing each other in chem then, I have a totally different timetable! Too bad -.- What other subjects are you taking?

  18. haha oh well, calculus 1, bioglogy cells and organisms and criminology from graffiti to terrorism. 🙂 oh well still will see eachother around tho haha. What subjects are you taking : ?

    1. Your subjects are impressive indeed 😛 I’m taking bio, chem, physics and creative writing! Who knows, maybe we’ll meet in a bio tute or lecture.

  19. Hey there everyone! Guess I’m a little late? I’m just about to post my first post when I’d thought I’d come around and take a sneak peak of you guys first…:) Wow…initially I thought I was the ONLY ONE who has a total no sense of direction (well, judging by the way my friends often blast me for my lost of directions…haha…:P) I’m glad I’m not alone…

    1. Haha, don’t worry about getting lost, we all do that at some point… only it seems we do it more often than others! Late is better than never, it’s great to meet you 😀
