First Year Diaries

Round 2 (Emily)

So I've started the semester off with a cough by immediately faltering in my intention to attend every lecture, every class and keep up with the notes of the former.

In my defence, I've been sick. Which sucks I've got to say, even though everyone knows it already. Just the typical flu/cold thing that every has had in the last month or has at the moment or will have within the next few days. So instead of dutifully attending all my lectures I've been curling up in bed and dwelling in the self-pity that inevitably comes when you can't taste the taste of food. I love food. And it turns out it's kind of depressing when you can't taste it.

Anyway, I'm trying to drag myself out of this pessimistic mind state because I've got a busy week ahead of me. I'm performing in The Rock Opera Company's original production 'Zombie!' which has it's first performance Wednesday night. It's a fully student-run musical about Zombies so if that sounds like something interesting to you, you should come see it! :D (And honestly if you don't find that concept interesting I'm confused as to what you would find interesting...).

On a slightly more study-related note I'm really excited about my subject for this semester! :) So far they're great. I'm doing Genetics & the Evolution of Life, Biology of Australian Flora and Fauna, Chemistry 2 and From Plato to Einstein. Basically, I have another biology subject instead of the Physics I did last term so un-mathematically-inclined-me is over the moon. Little annoying I couldn't do another creative writing subject this semester as my breadth but the history of science (Plato to Einstein) one is very good at this point...just not quite looking forward to the 2000 word essay at the end of semester. :/

Anyway, hopefully this sickness will leave my side in the next few days and next week I'll have some more positive things to report in regards to my productivity. :) Hope everyone else had a good first week back!

P.S. Just edited and added my name in brackets to the title...just because I finally realised pretty much everyone else is doing it...and I suppose it makes it clearer...yes, I am the one typing this out. :D Emily!

Back to the gallows! (Jessica)

I'd firstly like to start off by saying that I am oh so proud of the group of bloggers we have! We all post so regularly, so it is great to always have a new post to read.

Anyway, back to main point of this post. Yes, I did refer to University as the gallows. I have spent way too much time away from Uni and now it feels like I am back to square one with all the progress I had made last semester! I still believe University is maybe not my thing, but I am destined to make it work because I do love it! Need to set some more structure for myself and then I'll hopefully get back into the swing of things!

This semester I'm so far loving all the subjects I am doing! (Also happy none of them have exams, hehehe) I'm particularly interested in one education subject called Deafness and Communication, and after only one week of class it feels like it is going to be a good semester!

I started off the Semester helping out at the Aa Stall at Mid Year Orientation Week! It was great to meet some new members who signed up, and also see some friendly faces here and there!

On another Aa note, my first ever event for Aa has been organised for next week!

Free BBQ for all members on South Lawn 12 - 2, how exciting! With great music, fun games and free snags!, what more could you ask for? Unfortunately you have to be member to get a free sausage, but at only a small cost you will be signing up for a lifetime of good memories! It all starts with an A!

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the ASEAN (Monash) The Garden of Eden Ball! It was first University ball and I had an absolutely great time! Free alcohol, fine food and great music - that's all I need in life! Not sure how presentable I look in photos, but I shall endeavour to post some when I get the chance.

Anyway, off to study now! My goal for this semester is a higher average overall than last, H1 if I'm lucky?
HAHAH JOKES. We know that ain't going to happen.

Back to Uni we go…. (Adeshola)

So I'm writing this post in the Baillieu library after an afternoon spent helping out at the O-week Clubs and Society's stall. It definitely feels rather odd being back on campus aftter almost six weeks of holidays, but I thought I'd ease my way back into Uni life. In fact, the library is lovely and peaceful during the mid-semester break. All I can hear is the sound of my laptop keys tapping away on my keyboard and the odd book page being flipped. I've also just paid a visit to the new Co-op bookstore which recently took over from the Melbourne Uni bookstore. The perfect time to buy readers I would say- never seen it more quiet!

Our Media and Communications Society O-week stall went quite successfully! It was great to meet some new mid-year entrance students and talk to everybody about subjects they're studying. For those interested, we are running an Industry night with professional journalist, public relation companies, bloggers and academics who will be sharing there experiences of how they got into the industry and made a living from it! It's $10 for members, $12 for non-members plus free alcohol and food on the night (What's not to love?). For more details check the Facebook event page out here: http://www.facebook.com/events/161797920622117/

Being Thursday, we're coming to the last weekend of our holidays. For me, it's time to slowly start getting around the mindset of readings, assignments and early mornings.

Definitely looking forward to semester two for a fresh start! Plus, with the weather getting warmer and Paint & Glow, Arts Ball and Prosh Week just around the corner, I have a feeling it's going to be a good one!

All the best,

Adeshola

'Salvete amici' catus inquit (nimajneB) reflected in the x-axis

Hey guys,

The holidays are like artists in the fact that they are drawing to a close.  I'll leave that one open to interpretation.

Here are seven things I have learned in the past month:

  1. Fist pumping peoples’ glasses when they say cheers results in confused looks.
  2. Drinking directly from the tap may result in scalding your tongue.
  3. Blaming entropy for the state of your room is not really a valid response to ‘Why is your room untidy?’.
  4. Push doors are really pull doors marked incorrectly for entertainment purposes.
  5. It is not advisable to talk with a slightly different accent every few minutes at work for amusement’s sake.
  6. Sleep is great.
  7.  Tempus fugit.

Well this holiday sure has been busy!  I didn’t end up getting to do another post before this because I have had heaps on my metaphorical plate.  Not like steak and stuff, but actual stuff stuff (chicken stuffing?).  During this holiday I have worked a fair bit so I’m very sorry for any unreturned messages, texts or cancelled plans.  Also I had to sit some supplementary exams so was swotting in the middle of the holidays >_<  All well, it’s all over now and I think it went well.  Let me tell you, Wilson Hall is so much warmer than the Royal Exhibition building.  I realised about halfway through an exam when I still had circulation in my fingers and didn’t have to go into a frenzied breathing fit getting warm air on them as I did before.  It sounded rather like I was beat boxing at the time.  Not good.

Managed to get up to Port Douglas for a week which was absolutely fantastic with warm weather and warm water.  However, owing to the fact I had to do a fair bit of study, I didn’t get to see as much of it as the typical holidayer, but I still had a fantastic time.  My siblings found it quite amusing to see me having a ‘light read’ on the beach with my seventy kilo (okay then, thirty) Chemistry textbook.  Haha, I did actually work though, so glad to have gotten those exams out of the way.  Now to see how much I can cram into the last few days.  Of relaxing.  Oh dear, I didn’t mean more work, I’m not that nerdy :P  Well actually…

I’ve been lucky enough to have been invited up to the snow with a couple of good mates for this coming weekend.  I’m very excited and feel rather spoilt to get to go on two holidays.  It should prove to be fun though, although I’m not sure how good I will be at skiing seeing as I have only seen snow twice (once when we drove halfway up Lake Mountain when we were young and the other at Music Camp at school) and never touched a ski or snowboard.  I hope that it is somewhat like iceskating/rollerblading.  I still have fond memories of the times when my rollerblades still used to fit me back in the day (I am a size 13 shoe).  One time I was rolling along down the sidewalk when this humongous dog (well I hope that it was, it makes anecdote sound less risible) from behind the fence decided that it wanted to bark as I went past.  I got such a fright that I jumped AS I WAS BLADING and stacked impressively, getting close and personal with the pavement.  So hopefully it isn’t like rollerblading.  If it is, there is no cement at the snow :D

It’s gladdening to get out and about.  One thing I have grown to detest over recent years is just how dependent we have become on technology.  Technology doesn’t only help us, but sometimes it does the whole task for us.  Certainly one of these things is the internet.  Now one can shop, ‘find love’ (although I sincerely doubt it) and create a living all online.  Of course, there are many assets such as the mountains of information and knowledge one can come across, staying in touch with friends and having fun.  Yet the one thing that irks me about this whole online thing is the way that it adversely affects our lives.  Particularly with social media.  Now, there’s nothing wrong with social media, but really, being ‘social’ online is a bit of a strange concept.  I concede that it is good to stay in touch with people.  Yet, the crux of the matter is that social media can cause us to morph part our identity and stunts our ‘growth’ in a manner of speaking.  People have ‘online’ catch ups, ask people out and do other things that really ought to be done face to face.  Yet the current social paradigm dictates that this is merely the norm and not to be thought of as peculiar.  How can we grow if we are retarding half the elements required to have real conversations and life experiences?

Another item of interest is how we live our lives through the net.  We bloggers share to you, our audience, whomever you may be, what it entails to be a uni student, what happens to us in real life and other things.  Indeed, on mediums such as Facebook, we do similar things, sharing elements of our life, our interests and our thoughts.  Yet it shouldn’t be to the extent that we spend such vast amounts of time, daily.  We should spend that time doing something more productive, like reading and eating :D  I guess that I’m trying to say that we shouldn’t ‘virtually’ live our lives away when we can ‘real’ly enjoy them to the fullest offline.  (Excuse the terrible puns)

I’m really looking forward to this upcoming semester.  I’m going to have to be better organised this semester and manage my time a bit better if I want to enjoy it to the fullest.  I don’t want to fall behind in any subjects, because playing catch up is certainly not fun (seriously, in tiggy Subjects are so O.P.  Someone needs to nerf it) and results in sleep deprivation in swot vac. :P

Here’s to a semester full of fun, Fanta and success!

Cheers.. Sorry, FIST PUMP! *Punches fist in every direction simultaneously.  No, I’m not double jointed in the shoulder*

Ben^10 xx

The inevitable decision…that I've managed to avoid making…as yet

Please note: If you're tossing up between Arts and Science then this post may be of a slight interest to you. If you're not, it probably won't be at all. :D Again, if you're considering creative writing, this may be interesting. Otherwise, not so.

Ok, I made the decision to study Science at Melbourne instead of a double degree Arts/Science at Monash, but I still feel I am constantly refusing to accept reality and pick a side, a job, a subject.

Any VlogBrothers fans out there? 'I want ALL THE JOBS!' Yes, I do.

Alright, maybe not ALL the jobs. I know I could never be an accountant or a professional hockey player or a cat. I removed those from my mental list years ago.

But the word 'writer', ever since I can remember, was always at the top of my list and, in some ways, it still is. And yet here I am doing science. Confused? Yep.

Well, if it helps, I'm doing creative writing as breadth to make up for ditching a whole degree on the subject. And I've basically decided to do science because I want to learn as much as I possibly can about the world (restricted of course to the Life Sciences :P), before I start commenting on it through writing about it. Though that is something I do hourly already. :P Also, I'm one of those hypocritical, pretentious types who wants to make the world 'a better place' and yet spends their whole life doing nothing about it except occasionally sending a strongly worded email to their local member and bothering to turn the heater off at night. So doing science makes me feel like I could maybe contribute more in the future to things like conservation projects and whatnot.

Another reason I choose science was that an arts degree with a major in creative writing won't help you a great amount in breaking into the industry. If I decide to go for it in a few years time a short course or diploma or something would probably be more worthwhile. Writing is hard to teach; it's something you have to practise and practise and practise predominantly by yourself so I thought getting a degree in it might not help me. I was also scared that studying something so in depth might make writing seem too much like work and that's something I never want to happen. If you're interested in writing because you want to write a novel or poetry or anything, a degree won't help you get published.

I do believe, however, if writing is truly what you want to do and it's the only thing you want to do, go for it. That goes for anything really. :P But if you're tossing up between a few options I'm guessing you're as torn as I was.

I can attest that doing the CW subjects as breadth will give you some insight into the industry and help you develop ways to improve your own writing, and it's also a good way to know/check that you've made the right decision. I loved my creative writing subject last semester but I like just writing things on my own, which probably means I'll never get anywhere with it but I'm comfortable with that idea at the moment. :)

So that's the long story behind my decision to do science at Melbourne Uni.

Also, I was tossing up between Monash two buses and trains away and Science at Melbourne one bus or bike ride away so I'd be lying if I said the travel time difference wasn't a factor I considered. :P

"This has gotta be the good life" (Jessica)

I quote the wise words of OneRepublic and without a doubt can say, this is definitely the good life!

Been a long long time since my last post and that may be because I am way too caught up in how amazing these holidays are! They've been filled with impromptu flights, road trips, camping, seeing friends and the best part is they aren't even over yet! So I suppose I should start at the beginning and work my way to where I am currently.

IMPROMPTU FLIGHTS
After my dreaded exams were over, I was whisked off on a very impromptu trip to Sydney! I headed up there with my best friend Tina and we had an absolute blast. When we weren't doing all the typical tourist things, we were either shopping or just simply exploring the inner streets of Sydney!

EOX
Upon returning, that night I headed off to the Aa (one of many) End of Exams party! This year it was held at Se7en night club and we were lucky enough to have one hour of free flow spirits! It was crazy but luckily for me, I still managed to get myself into my pjs and eventually my own bed.

ROADTRIP
After a very crazy EOX I headed on a road trip down to Rye where Aa had a little Committee retreat! I had an amazing time (even though I only remember parts of it) and it was great to spend some time getting to know my fellow Committee members!

CAMP
For those of you avid readers, you know I like a good camp. I was not disappointed upon attending RMIT Asian Association's camp! Filled with the usual debaucherous  behaviour, wild drinking games and mornings waking up with no recollection of where you are, the camp did not fail to fulfil the large shoes it held in my books. I made many new friends who I look forward to seeing again at the upcoming reunion!

SEEING FRIENDS (INTERNSHIP)
While most of my holidays involved casual and often informal settings, this last week I was involved in something a bit more serious. I worked in Parliament House this week after having obtained a week long internship with the YMCA Youth Parliament program. Besides being able to participate in the program, I also had the chance to see some old friends! This was without a doubt one of the best things of these holidays so far. I had a great time being involved, I look forward to any future involvement I may have with the YMCA.

So all that leads us to this very moment in time now - me sitting in my bed at 10:30PM on a Sunday writing this entry. In regards to other things in my life at the moment, I haven't worked in since exams started, so having my first shift yesterday was a little daunting. But everything became all so familiar when I walked in the store again, so it wasn't too bad!

On a bit of a random note, I just registered my attendance at a youth information night about running for Local Council. I am highly considering doing this and I need some advice to whether this is a crazy idea or that maybe I can actually pull this off?

Anyway, I'm feeling a tad under the weather so I'm going to hop off and get some shut eye!

Lots of Love,
Jessica

Feeling the zen…. (Adeshola)

So I'm writing this post in bed with a cup of tea and thinking how much I adore the Winter holidays. Summer's great for the excitement, the hot weather and the endless array of outings, music festivals and beach days, but Winter is lovely to simply stay warm and not do much else. Being on holidays just adds to this!

My  fellow Arts Camp friends and I have just come back today from a week up in Hepburn Springs! You'd think as four 18 year old girls we'd be hitting the clubs to celebrate end of exams, but we opted for a week away filled with lots of tea, spas and face masks instead.

While we arrived to a miserable rainy day, the weather cleared up to bring us some lovely Winter sun. We began out trip with a walk down to the local Mineral pumps where you can fill up your water bottles (for free of course!) with fresh mineral water. Although a slightly metallic after taste was left in our mouths after a few guzzles, we guzzled it down knowing it was good for us!

On Wednesday we saluted the sun with a quick yoga sesh on the deck before heading down to the Bathhouse. This plays smells, looks, feels and sounds like relaxation! From the gentle whiff of essential oils in the air to the amazing architectural design, we were feeling tranquil as soon as we stepped into the wide doors. With our bathers and fluffy bathrobes on we were ready to go! We soaked in the minerals waters, sweated it out in the aromatherapy sauna and then almost fell asleep in the spa couches! Best way to de-stress after mid-year exams I'd say! Highly recommended.

On the final day, we decided to do a long walk along a supposed 16km track that would lead us to Mount Franklin. So off we set with our packed lunches and all. We climbed the hilly contours of the bush and two hours in my lack of fitness was starting to show. However, we soon turned our attention to the fact that as four teenage girls it was as if we could have been on the ABC show 'Jeopardy' where the group of teenagers experience eerie events in the Australian bush (Note: For those of you asking Jepa what!? Get onto this show!). Consequently, our distraction led us to completely miss our turn and walk about 8km in the opposite direction! Getting caught up with the 'guess the tune I'm humming' game and what not, it took us a while to realise that Mount Franklin was nowhere to be seen. Luckily for Alisha and I, our two of super fit friends volunteered to run back the the house, pick up the car and meet us half way. Two hours later after what felt like endless trekking through the bush, we were back in the house by the fire and feeling ever so cosy.

Coming back today, the leafy surroundings so quickly disappeared as we zoomed passed them in the car and before long greasy fast food outlets and the DFO billboards could be seen as we edged closer and closer home. It was a lovely week to just simply get away from the busy city life and de-stress with good company and great surroundings!

In other news, the words of 'exam results' seem to be spreading around as the date looms upon us. Although apparently if you check under the 'Admin' tab on the Portal and follow it to your 'study plan' the results are all ready up. I'm yet to try this though, mainly because I'm still enjoying the 'I just finished exams, haven't seen my results yet and everything's wonderful' delusion at the moment.

We've got another three weeks to go until we'll be back at campus and uni life will once again quickly pick up! I'm not dreading going back, but I'm certainly enjoying these weeks off.

Here's to holidays and taking some time off every now and then! It's amazing what some tea, a good dosage of fresh air and laughter with friends can do to you in a new environment.

Until next time,

Adeshola

I'm baaaack :D (Monique)

So hi……

I kind of wrote one post and disappeared and.. and please forgive me! *gets down on knees*, I’m begging you; I never meant to hurt you first year uniMelb blog! I still love you, give me one more chance, I’ll never leave you for that long again! Please, you know we were meant to be together, just you and me and our little word and prose babies…. And okay that got disturbing fast ;)

So yes, I wrote one post and then went AWOL (some military jargon for y’all, dad was in the army, it comes with the territory ;)) It was at that time that all my assignments were starting to pile up and when they finished exams came and I lost my mind, literally. I posted up wanted posters for it everywhere and found it skulking in my dog’s house, how it got there I’ll never know…. But anyway this blog completely flew out of my mind, and I just remembered it like four days ago! So I’m sorry for not being a more regular poster, I endeavor to rectify this horrendous act next semester by posting at least every two weeks, once a week is my ultimate goal but baby steps first ;)

So how glad is everyone that exams are over?! Oh my gosh it was like I had forgotten all the pain and torture of VCE exams, why did I not create notes throughout the semester, why did I leave things till the last minute, why, why, why!! I hope that this seeps into my brain this time because if not I’m going to have to grab a hammer and smash it into my seemingly thick skull to make it stay there! And yet, the unfortunate truth is, I’ll probably do the same thing next semester -,- albeit a little less rushed hopefully. I had one exam, the biology one and three large take home essays for my other subjects. I would say biology was the hardest, only because being my only science subject, it was difficult to study in such a different way than my essays, because of course I only had to write my essays, in biology I had to remember three hours’ worth of questions -,- But good news is, I passed and vow never to take a science subject again, except for semester one of next year, but that’s only because I love evolution and genetics :D My friend has a huge nerd crush on Darwin :P and Doctor Who and Paul Bettany and all these older guys, well Darwin is the oldest and most dead I suppose and this is way off topic.

Anyway, holidays!! Yay :D Except not yay because every holiday without fail I get soooo bored. In the five month holiday before uni started I was ready to tear my hair out at how bored I was!! I’m actually feeling a little sick remembering those dark times, and trust me no one wants to see me bald, because apparently I have a huge head. My parents laughingly told me that when I was a baby they couldn’t by normal tops for me because they wouldn’t fit over my head, they had to always buy button up clothes -,- Lets move past my abnormally large head and discuss what I do on the holidays, but also tell me what you guys do or have done these holidays :D Let me know! Seriously, I’m bored right now, entertain me with hilarious anecdotes of winter fun and frolicking in the sometimes sun, hey that rhymed! :D I am way too tired now if I find what I just wrote funny.

So usually I read, a lot during holidays, but unfortunately I’ve found as a student at uni, especially an art student, you read so much that when you have free time the last thing you want to do is read, even if books are awesome and mind blowing and you’ve been waiting to read them since exam prep started and there sitting there on your desk with puppy eyes saying “read me, read me!”. Told you I was insane… so I haven’t been reading much. So what else do you do I hear you asking, well I watched the entire season of Once Upon A Time, and LOVED IT!!! Anyone else here watch it? What do you think? I love all the fairy-tale characters and have a massive crush on Graham *sigh*. But now that I’ve watched them all that leaves me with hanging out with my friend’s right? WRONG! I am an introverted duck who is socially awkward to a degree previously unheard of on this planet we call earth!! So not many friends, and those that miraculously seem to find me amusing are all busy :( But I do hang out with them occasionally, we were going to see Brave but we cancelled it and tomorrow we are all having dinner to say goodbye to one of my best friends who is moving to Sydney.

So I am bored, out of my mind, sitting here laughing at my awful jokes, hoping that my brother needs help with his VCE homework so I have something to do, yes my life is sad, you may openly mock me, I allow it, in fact I encourage it, at least then I’ll have something to read :P

And last but not least before I return to my endless boredom, how did everyone go with registering for classes? Did you all get the timetable you wanted? I woke up at 9:45 just so I could get on early! Although my timetable is ten times better than it was last semester (I had awful three and two hour gaps) I’m still not entirely pleased, I like to get my classes done with at the start of the day, and unfortunately my history classes with only one lecture one and one lecture two start at 3 -,- Also, I’ve decided to only take three classes this semester, so hopefully this will make things less stressful and help me improve my marks. So I’m taking psychology, Ancient History- Greece and Rome, and History- Age of Empires. What subjects are you doing?

And lastly Ben, I like the idea of the Surreptitious Seven, as a ninja in training I like to be stealthy. But for variety, I’m going to put some names out there. How about the Scandalous Seven… hmmm to risky, ooh how about the Saber-toothed Seven?  I mean Ice Age four is coming out. Or the Sacred Seven?  Too holy, Sacrificial seven? Too creepy, how about the Sackbut Seven, yes it is a word, I checked, it is an instrument of some kind. Too obscure, Saffron Seven? Too spicey :P  Safe Seven? Too boring, Sagely Seven? Sagittarius Seven, no that doesn’t work, I’m a Libra (what are you guys?!) oooh what about the Safari Seven, then we could be like the Wild Thornberry’s :D I loved that show!! The Sailing Seven? Ahoy me hearties! All ye land lubbers to the poop deck (haha poop deck) The Sane, Salty, Safe, Sandy, Santa Seven? ...Okay, its official, I have gone crazy, I think the Surreptitious Seven is just right (I believe I may be Goldilocks :P) I hope I haven’t made you run off with my insanity.

Thanks for reading, please comment and I can’t wait to meet you guys and eat pizza!

Monique

What to do on holidays when sufficiently bored enough to do something, yet just ever so lazy that it is indeed an effort to leave the house (With Benjamin Ten Jam In)

Like brushing your teeth, Captain Feathersword impersonations and Bieber Fever, the holidays are something that dominate a large part of our lives.  Although all of the following only happen a few times annually, they all must be given equal amounts of love lest we grow sick of the same routine.  And alas, it has come to that time of the year again where we all have too much time on our hands but an inability to use it to its maximum funness/funkiness.  That is why I have devised this guide in order to give you some basic ideas and direction for the weeks ahead.

Warning: This episode was written in front of a live studio audience.  Readers are advised to chortle heartily/snigger in disdain/moan in despair if they do so feel the need.  Bonus points shall be awarded to those who do the best impersonations of Rick from ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’.  Not that I watch that show.

Suggestion Number One: Having spent the entire night on Facebook, wake up nice and early at 11am to start your day.  Drag yourself out of bed but forego breakfast, seeing as you’re going to have lunch soon anyway.  Upon dislocating your funny bone due to a bad pun you just made up, commence an exciting game of tag with your pet cats.  If you do not have cats, imaginary ones will do, however, you may need to inform people of what you are doing unless you want to look immature.

Several lacerations later it is now time for lunch, which is good seeing as it is about three o’clock.  Eat a can of baked beans, raw if you have watched Bear Grylls within the last decade.  Which you have.  So suffer.

After a moderately extreme tummy tantrum on account of your fine meal, try to read a book, seeing as you have not done so for quite some time.  Preferably something intellectually stimulating along the lines of Jane Austen or Arthur C Clarke.

Having finished CHERUB, go onto Facebook to see exactly how far you can inflate your ego without seeming overtly narcissistic.  Your options include posting a shot of you showing off your non-existent guns (no, Call of Duty does not count :P ), picking up grammatical errors in statuses and attempting to employ the use of fifteenth century English.  Fie, fie for shame.

Skip dinner in order to have an epic jam sesh with yourself on the piano with a notable solo from the unhappy person next door, who, from what you could deduce through the intermingled screeching and yelling (which was very flat), claimed that playing piano after eleven thirty at night is somehow ‘inappropriate’.  Then fall asleep, using cat as a rather comfortable pillow substitute.  Exeunt.  Curtains.

Suggestion Number Two: As the warm sunlight trickles through the slits in your blinds and washes over your face at eight o’clock, decide that today you are going to be less lazy.  So, go back to sleep to ensure that you can get up bright and early at ten thirty.

Once you have gotten up, have breakfast.  Deciding that you can better what you had yestermorning (seven teddy bear biscuits and three scotch fingers), have a light one today by having two slices of bread.  Start being productive by entertaining yourself by means of putting on different accents.  Your choices are French, English, Zulu, Roman, American Trailer voice or Geodude (not too hard, just try make your voice sound gravelly).

Eat your lunch whilst watching a ‘How to Beatbox’ video on youtube.  Your severe frustration, annoyance and general lack of skill is apparent by the speckled spit and ham that now decorates the computer monitor.  Sometimes we really do need to learn to ‘say it, not spray it’.

Finally, decide to do a bit of cooking, having been inspired by Masterchef, The Iron Chef and Iron Man.  You’re a tad rusty, so only realise that you have put the cookie dough you have created in a muffin tray when it is too late.  Oh well.  Put in oven for three or four youtube videos before removing.  Decide to use paper towel instead of oven mitts due to laziness, giving yourself what appears to be third degree burns in the process.  Jump about screeching, befouling the air with a dozen choice swear words.  Ensure no one is home at the time lest the casual observer presume that you are having a bad spate of Coprolalia again.

Make like your wounds by having some raw eggs for dinner.  Boredom does make you a bit of a chook.

Suggesion Number Three: Decide that you are going to stay in bed all day.  And sleep.  Good luck.  I am yet to complete this seemingly impossible task.  If too hard, just spend the day rewatching Doctor Who or something :D  Not True Blood.  I still don’t know what it is.  SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN IT TO ME IN FIVE HUNDRED WORDS OR LESS!  OKAY?  THANK YOU.

IN CLOSING I aM going to let go of the shift key because my left pinkie is starting to cramp.  Instead I will just write in italic font.  There we areSo, I hope that everyone has a most marvellous holiday OMG I PRESSed the wrong butTON WHOOPS lET ME FIX THAT.  Ah, that’s better.  So, as I was saying, enjoy the holidays and I’ll see you guys all next semester.  Looking forward to meeting the new bloggers in person, too :D

Benjamin kiss kiss times ten to the power of twenty three.  I am not very good with those ‘moletiples’ :P

Post exam post? (Adeshola)

Semester one of uni? Check, done, finito!

It's finally complete over. No more readings, no more feelings of guilt every time I log onto Facebook, no more assignments or exams! We've finally reached the end of Semester one.

SWOT VAC was quite honestly, horrible. If, like most first year students you were attempting to cram 1 1 weeks worth of information into five days then you'll know what I mean. On top of this, you're house bound as everyone you know is also doing the exact same thing. You start to notice the same people walking past your hours each day as you stare out the window and before long you become this socially awkward hermit who only retreats away from their bedroom for food. Needless to say, when I finally stepped out of that ridiculously cold exam building last Thursday I was filled with relief to be finally finished with exams!

I've been on holidays for less than a week but am definitely getting used to it. The best part? No time restrictions! It's nice to be able to just have a whole day off to do what you please and not be stressed out by constant reminders of uni work to be done. I'm definitely looking forward to the next few weeks to relax and get ready for what I hope is a fresh start for semester 2.

Besides going up to Dayelsford for a couple of nights, I'm staying in Melbourne to enjoy these lovely weeks off uni!

What are everyone's plans for the weeks ahead?

Hope everyone has a great and much needed Winter break!

Until next time...

Adeshola
